Iota Theta Zeta Chapter History

Chartered on January 26, 1979, in the town of Rockville Centre, New York, Iota Theta Zeta Chapter emerged from the shared vision and dedication of seven pioneering members of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated: Anne France, Elgiva Ball, Loree Jean-Marie, Linette Mott, Francis Edmonston, Inez Spears, and Joyce Robinson. Later, Janester Thompson joined the chapter, further moving the chapter's mission of being of a “Community Conscious-Action Oriented” organization forward. With a steadfast commitment to Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood, and Finer Womanhood, Iota Theta Zeta has remained a cornerstone of Nassau County's Long Island community for an illustrious 45 years.

Iota Theta Zeta Chapter continually exemplifies our Sorority’s principles and implementing our international iniative Z-HOPE, ZETAS HELPING OTHER PEOPLE EXCEL. The chapter's impact extends includes shaping the lives of countless individuals and leaving an indelible mark on the Long Island community.

A testament to its enduring legacy, Iota Theta Zeta Chapter proudly oversees three undergraduate chapters on Long Island, each embodying the values and traditions of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. These chapters include Eta Kappa Chapter at State University of New York at Old Westbury, the Zeta Kappa Chapter at Long Island University at Post, and Alpha Lambda Chapter at Adelphi University.

In keeping with its commitment to academic excellence, Iota Theta Zeta Chapter has provided invaluable scholarships and book stipends to deserving Nassau County high school seniors, empowering them to pursue their educational aspirations. Moreover, the chapter has forged meaningful partnerships with local organizations such as the Cedarmore Corporation’s Girlz Talk, The Island Harvest Food Bank, and supporting local elected officials volunteering tirelessly to address the pressing needs and fostering positive change in Nassau County, New York.

With unwavering dedication and boundless compassion, the members of Iota Theta Zeta continue to uplift and empower those in need, leaving an enduring legacy of service and sisterhood for generations to come.
